Question about hydrogen and water?

I don’t know much about chemistry , but I wondered about lets say water, it has two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atoms, yet pure oxygen and pure hydrogen can be hazardous, why is this? Same with a lot of other chemicals.

Because they’re unstable on their own. Hydrogen and Oxygen are what I call part of the "super seven" the seven elements that have to be paired unless they’re bonded. Hydrogen and Oxygen will not exist as H and O, but instead H2 and O2. Hopefully that helps you.

Edit: I forgot to add about the stability, if you have H20, then you will have 8 valence electrons, which is stable (like a noble gas). (O has 6, and H has 1 each)

Think the concept as like this:

You have two different herbs, eating just one would be poisonous. If you mix two of them and grind them into medicine, then ti is safe.

You get the idea?
